What to expect during treatment
Comprehensive Consultation and Digital Planning
Dr. Lovell or Dr. Anderson will evaluate your bite, alignment, and facial structure using 3D scans, photos, and x-rays. You’ll receive a personalized treatment plan with a clear timeline, estimated cost, and next steps.
Bracket Placement
Braces are placed in a single appointment. Small brackets are bonded to each tooth, and a thin wire connects them to begin guiding movement. The process is comfortable and typically takes about an hour.
Regular Adjustments
You’ll visit our Morton or Washington office every 4–8 weeks for adjustments. During these visits, wires are changed or tightened to continue moving your teeth toward their ideal positions. Most adjustments take 20–30 minutes.
Final Removal and Retainers
Once your teeth are aligned and your bite is stable, braces are removed, and you’ll receive custom retainers. Retainers protect your results and keep your smile looking great for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will I need to wear braces?
Most patients wear braces for 12–24 months, though treatment time varies based on the complexity of your case and how well you follow care instructions. Morton & Washington braces treatment plans are personalized to your specific needs, and we’ll give you an accurate estimate at your consultation.
Do braces hurt?
You may feel soreness for a few days after braces are placed and after each adjustment. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods help during this period. The discomfort is temporary, and most patients adjust quickly.
Can I still play sports or an instrument with braces?
Yes. We recommend wearing a mouthguard during contact sports to protect your braces and teeth. If you play a wind instrument, there may be a brief adjustment period, but most musicians adapt within a few weeks.
What foods should I avoid with braces?
Avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods that can damage brackets or wires. This includes popcorn, hard candy, gum, ice, and sticky caramel. Cutting foods like apples or carrots into smaller pieces makes them easier to eat safely.
